Deborah Putnoi

Deborah Putnoi is a visual artist, educator, and researcher with an extensive academic background, including degrees from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Tufts University, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Her work has been exhibited in both solo and group shows across the country and is included in significant collections. With a strong commitment to education, she has taught in schools, universities, and community organizations, while also contributing to research on arts education with Howard Gardner at Project Zero. As the author of The Drawing Mind, Putnoi explores the transformative power of the creative process and is currently producing a film series to accompany the book.

Putnoi’s art is driven by a desire to make viewers see the world more humanely. She focuses on creating work that captures fragmented moments from daily life, blending her own experiences with those of others she encounters, such as the hidden heroes of the community. Her pieces often incorporate multiple narratives through a grid structure, encouraging viewers to engage and participate in creating meaning. By integrating diverse stories and elements, Putnoi’s work explores the microcosms within our everyday lives, making the viewer an essential part of the artistic experience.
